Sanders are used to sand wood and similar products, painted surfaces, metal, stone, etc.

There are sanders of various different shapes in order to do specific jobs:

• The delta sander or triangular sander ideal for restoration work such as the sanding of shutters (louvre shutters)

or staircases. Thanks to its shape, it can get into tight angles. It is compact and easy to use.

• The vibrating sander recommended for sanding flat surfaces such as doors or furniture. Move the sander slowly and

regularly, in the direction of the wood fibres.

• The orbital sander which enables you to sand, buff or polish, using the suitable accessories. It is precise and manoeuvrable,

and can be used on surfaces that are not flat. It is a very versatile machine. Move the sander with slow and regular circular

movements.

• The belt sander is used to take off much more material and to sand wide surfaces such as wooden floors. The belt moves

longitudinally and sands this way. Therefore, work in the direction of the wood fibres, without pressing down on the machine.

Hold the machine tight, because it is a powerful tool. Attention, if you leave the tool in one place, there is a risk that you will

carve out a hollow in what you are sanding.

• When you are positioning the abrasive belt, ensure that it does not block the inlet holes (if the machine has any).

• Generally speaking, it is better to begin with coarse grain sandpaper (e.g. A40) and move up to finer grained papers

(e.g. A120). The basis weight is inversely proportional to the abrasive power.

• The adjustment of the speed, if you machine has this equipment, enables you to adapt the speed of vibration to the material

you are working with. For example, you need to use a low speed for stripping, in order to prevent heating or liquidising the

paint, which would damage the sandpaper.

• It is better to hook your machine up to a vacuum cleaner in order to collect as much dust as possible.

Las lijadoras permiten lijar la madera y sus derivados, las superficies pintadas, el metal,

la piedra... existen lijadoras de diferentes formas para realizar obras específicas:

• La lijadora delta o lijadora triangular es ideal para los trabajos de restauración como el lijado de postigos

(persianas) o de escaleras. Gracias a su forma puede meterse en los ángulos. Compacta es muy fácil de utilizar.

• La lijadora vibratoria se recomienda para el lijado de superficies planas como puertas o muebles. Desplazar la lijadora

con movimientos lentos y regulares en el sentido de la fibra.

• Con accesorios adaptados, la lijadora orbital permite lijar, dar brillo o encerar. Manejable y precisa, se puede trabajar en

superficies no planas. Es pues una máquina polivalente. Desplazar la lijadora con movimientos circulares lentos y regulares.

• La lijadora de cinta sirve para quitar mucha más materia y para lijar grandes superficies tales como los parqués.

La cinta se desplaza longitudinalmente con el fin de trabajar por banda. Para un trabajo fino, trabaje en

el sentido de la fibra de la madera sin hacer fuerza en la máquina. Sujete la máquina porque es una herramienta

potente. ¡Cuidado! si deja trabajar la máquina en un mismo lugar, corre el riesgo de ahuecar el soporte.

• Cuando coloque la hoja abrasiva, averigüe que esté bien puesta de forma que no obstruya los agujeros

de aspiración (si su máquina está equipada con esta función).

• Por lo general se trabaja con abrasivos de grano grueso (como por ejemplo el A40), para el acabado se

utiliza el grano fino (como por ejemplo el A120). El gramaje es inversamente proporcional a su poder abrasivo.

• El ajuste de la velocidad, si su máquina está equipada con esta función, permite adaptar la frecuencia

de vibración a los materiales. Por ejemplo, es preciso utilizar una frecuencia baja para decapar con el fin

de evitar el calentamiento y la liquefacción de la pintura, lo que deteriorara prematuramente el papel abrasivo.

• Es preferible conectar su máquina a un aspirador para colectar la mayor cantidad posible de polvo.
